November News:

Ingrid Johanson, who graduated with a PdD from UCB EPS in '06, returned to the BSL this October as a post-doc after a Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellowship at the USGS. She will be working on advanced analysis of space based SAR data with Roland Burgmann.

Stephen Thompson joined the BSL as a Systems Administrator at the beginning of November.

October News:

Pascal Audet will begin his Miller Fellowship in the EPS department in early November. Working with Richard Allen and others, he will focus on subduction zone structure and processes associated with megathrust earthquakes and episodic tremor and slip.

September News:

Mathias Obrebski joined the BSL as a post-doc working with Richard Allen in late September.

Morgan Wilson will be joining the BSL Business Office staff as an Administrative Assistant on September 29th!

August News:

After completing a one-year MS, including a full research project with Roland Burgmann on measuring and modeling deformation along the Hayward-Calaveras stepover and a study of the 2007 Alum Rock earthquake, Eileen Evans is heading east to Harvard to pursue a Phd in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.

Oleg Khainovski will be joining the BSL as a Programmer Analyst in late August!

Taka'aki Taira started work as an Assistant Research Seismologist on August 1!

June News:

Kate Connor married Justin Lewis on June 21st!

Paul Cupillard joined the BSL at the beginning of June as a post-doc working with Barbara Romanowicz.

On June 3, a party was held to commemorate two employees' years of service to the BSL. Bill Karavas was honored for 15 years of service, while John Friday was honored for 35 years of University service.

Pete Lombard received a Berkeley Campus Spot Award in recognition of his efforts in completing critical unfinished tasks for the Early Earthquake Warning project which insured that important deadlines were met despite the unexpected departure of a colleague.

Angela Chung is leaving the BSL in June to pursue a PhD in geophysics at Stanford University.

Fabio Cammarano is leaving the BSL in June for a 2 year post-doc position in Zurich. He will be working at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics group of ETH.

Aimin Cao is leaving the BSL at the end of June for a post-doc position at Rice University.

Daula Vishwanath Chandrasekhar is completing his fellowship at the end of June and returning to his position as a research scientist at National Geophysical Research Institute in Hyderabad, India.

May News:

Karl Kappler graduated in May and left the BSL for a position at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he is focusing on Unexploded Ordnance detection and discrimination.

April News:

Alexei Kireev left the BSL in early April for a job in industry.

March News:

Baby boy Gaston Houlie was born to Nicolas Houlie and his wife Anne-Sophie on March 11th!

February News:

Baby girl Michaela Yuan was born to Huaiyu Yuan and his wife Yumei on February 15th!

Baby boy Connor Matteo Templeton was born to former graduate student Dennise Templeton (now at Livermore) and her husband Jeremy Templeton on February 19th!

January News:

Mei Xue will be leaving the BSL in mid-January for an associate professor position in the Global Seismology and Geodynamics Program at Tongji University in Shanghai.

Dr. Robert Uhrhammer retired from the Berkeley Seismological Laboratory this January and will soon come back to work part time as a retiree appointee.

Laurent Stehly is joining the BSL as a post-doc working with Barbara Romanowicz.
