A mild earthquake located off the coast about 9 miles WSW of Ferndale
occurred at 01:00 AM PDT on Saturday morning, May 31. The local magnitude for
this earthquake is 3.2 (ML).

A mild earthquake occurred at 02:03 AM PDT early Friday morning, May 30.
This epicenter was located about 6 miles WNW of Madera, CA. The
local magnitude for this event is 3.1 (ML).
- 29 May 2003, 11:33 and 15:52 PDT
A moderate earthquake occurred at 03:52 PM PDT on Thursday afternoon, May 29.
This epicenter was located in the State of Nevada about 13 miles ESE of
Mina. The local magnitude for the event averaged over the Berkeley network
is 4.1 (ML). A mild event of local magnitude 3.8 (ML) occurred in the same area
at 11:33 AM on Thursday morning May 29.
- 28 May 2003, 15:26 PDT
A small earthquake was reported felt in the region E of Union City on
Wednesday afternoon, May 28. This event occurred at 03:26 PM PDT and had
a local magnitude of 2.6 (ML). The epicenter was located about 3 miles E of
Union City.
- 26 May 2003, 16:13 PDT
A large, deep earthquake occurred at 07:13 AM Tuesday May 27 local time
(04:13 PM Monday May 26 PDT) in the Mindanao, Philippines region, about
45 miles SW of Cotabato. The event had a depth of focus of about 560 kilometers
(or 350 miles) under the surface of the earth. The body wave magnitude,
averaged over the Berkeley Network, is 6.1 (mb), which is decidedly low
since, at 105 degrees we are in the Earth's shadow zone and receiving only
the lower energy P waves that have been diffracted along the Earth's core. The
moment magnitude for the event determined by the USGS NEIC is 6.8 (Mw).

A mild earthquake which occurred at 02:15 PM PDT on Monday afternoon,
May 26. This epicenter was located along the San Andreas Fault W of the
Golden Gate, about 8 miles NW of Daly City and 9 miles W of San Francisco
City Hall. The local magnitude for this event, averaged over the Berkeley
Network, is 3.3 (ML).
- 26 May 2003, 12:23 PDT
A large earthquake occurred in the Halmahera, Indonesia region, with
epicenter located about 150 miles NE of Ternate, Moluccas. The origin
time for this event was 04:23 AM Tuesday May 27 local time (12:23 PM Monday
May 26 PDT). The surface wave magnitude over the Berkeley Network is 6.9 (Ms).
The moment magnitude published by the USGS NEIC is 7.0 (Mw). More information

A mild earthquake located about 6 miles WNW of Madera and 28 miles
NW of Fresno, CA, occurred at 03:38 AM early Monday morning, May 26.
This event has a local magnitude across the Berkeley Network of 3.6 (ML).
- 26 May 2003, 03:01 PDT
A mild earthquake which occurred at 03:01 AM PDT early Monday morning
May 26. This epicenter was located along the Calaveras Fault about 13 miles
N of Morgan Hill and 12 miles E of San Jose City Hall, CA. The local
magnitude for the event, averaged over the Berkeley Network, is 3.8 (ML).
- 26 May 2003, 02:24 PDT
A large earthquake occurred at 06:24 PM local time (02:24 AM PDT)
on Monday, May 26, near the east coast of Honshu, Japan, about 55 miles NE of
Sendai. The surface wave magnitude for this event, averaged over the Berkeley
Network, is 6.7 (Ms). The moment magnitude, determined by the USGS NEIC,
is 7.0 (Mw). Some landslides, but no significant damage, have been reported
as of this time due to the earthquake. No tsunami was reported to have been
generated by the event. More information is available from the

- 25 May 2003, 00:09 PDT
Several residents in Santa Rosa were awakened by a moderate earthquake
at 12:09 AM PDT on Sunday morning, May 25. This epicenter was located
about 2 miles NNE of Santa Rosa city center. The local magnitude for
this earthquake is 4.3 (ML). The moment magnitude for the event, determined
at Berkeley, is 4.2 (Mw).

A mild earthquake occurred at 04:20 AM PDT on Saturday morning, May 24.
This epicenter was located about 13 miles E of Ferndale. The local
magnitude for the event is 3.0 (ML).
- 22 May 2003, 23:48 PDT
A mild earthquake occurred at 04:48 PM PDT on Thursday afternoon, May 22.
This epicenter was located about 4 miles WNW of San Benito. The local
magnitude for the event is 3.7 (ML).
- 21 May 2003, 11:44 PDT
A large earthquake occurred at 07:44 PM about 40 miles E of Algiers in
Northern Algeria (11:44 AM PDT). The surface wave magnitude, averaged
over the Berkeley Network, is 6.8 (Ms). The final moment magnitude determined for the earthquake by the USGS National Earthquake Information Center, is
also 6.8 (Mw). Four days following the earthquake, the BBC and NPR radio news
report that at least 2,000 people died as a result of the earthquake, and
almost 9,000 were injured. The worst damage was reported to have occured east
of Algiers in the Bourmerdes region near the quake epicenter. This is the
largest earthquake in Algeria since the magnitude 7.1 El Asnam Earthquake
that struck October 10, 1980. More information is available from the

A moderate earthquake occurred at 09:50 AM PDT on Tuesday morning, May 20.
This epicenter was located at The Geysers, south of Clear Lake. The local magnitude for this event, averaged over the Berkeley Network, is 3.6 (ML).
The moment magnitude for the earthquake, determined at Berkeley, is 4.0 (Mw).
A mild earthquake occurred about 5 miles SE of The Geysers at 06:59 AM
on Wednesday morning, May 21. The local magnitude for this event is 3.2 (ML).

A mild earthquake occurred at 12:09 AM PDT on Tuesday morning, May 20.
This epicenter was located off the coast of Northern California about 35
miles WNW of Ferndale. The local magnitude for the event is 3.2 (ML).
- 03 May 2003, 21:23 PDT
A mild earthquake occurred at 09:23 PM PDT on Saturday night, May 3.
This epicenter was located about 4 miles E of The Geysers, CA. The local
magnitude for the event, which was recorded at most stations in the Berkeley
Network, is 3.5 (ML).
