A major earthquake occurred at 04:40 pm (PDT) This event was located about 4,600 miles SE of Berkeley near the coast of central Peru, about 30 miles W of Chincha Alta. The moment magnitude for this earthquake is 8.0. At least 514 people were killed and 1090 injured, with more than 35,500 builings destroyed. USGS NEIC data for the earthquake.

A major earthquake which occurred at 10:04 am (PDT) This event was located about 8,700 miles WNW of Berkeley in the Region of Java, Indonesia, 65 miles ENE of Jakarta

A major earthquake which occurred at 10:08 am (PDT) It was located about 5,900 miles SW of Berkeley in the Vanuatu Islands about 45 miles ESE of Luganville, Espiritu Santo.
