A major earthquake occurred at 11:00 am (PST). This epicenter was located
about 4,000 miles E of Berkeley region of Martinique in the Windward
Islands. The moment magnitude for this event, determined by the USGS,
is 7.4. On Martinique 1 person was killed, at least 100 injured, several
buildings were damaged or destroyed and power outages occurred. On
Barbados 2 people were injured and several buildings destroyed. Minor
damage occurred at St. Lucia and St. Vincent. Power outages occured
on Guadeloupe. Maximum modified Mercalli intensity was VII at
Fort-de-France.

A strong earthquake occurred at 12:42 pm (PST). This epicenter was located
off the coast of Oregon, about 158 miles WNW of Bandon,OR, and 208 miles
NW of Crescent City, CA. The final moment magnitude for the event, determined
by the USGS, is 5.4.
A major earthquake occurred at 07:40 am (PST). This event was located
about 3,200 miles ESE of Berkeley in Antofagasta, Chile, about 25 miles
ESE of Tocopilla. The moment magnitude for this earthquake is 7.7.
At least two people were killed and 45 injured in Tocopilla; twenty were
injured at Maria Helena. Buildings were damaged in these two towns,
and at Antofagasta and Calama.
