Wellman Hall
The façade of
Wellman Hall is composed of granite,
a plutonic igneous rock composed of three minerals
(feldspar, quartz, and dark mica).
All of these minerals
are silicates composed of structures of
Si and
O.
Most of the granite on campus was mined from the
Sierra Nevada. Granite is a harder and more resistant
building material than calcite.
