I met Bruce Bolt during his service on the Seismic Review Board for the
California Division of Safety of Dams. I last saw him at the Berkeley
Distinguished Lecture Series for Geotechnical Engineering in May 2005.
I made a point of catching him to say hello as he was leaving. I'm so
glad I did.
Dr. Bolt was scheduled for our upcoming Seismic Review Board meetings in
August. We will miss his wit, wisdom and humor. His broad perspective
and vast experience gave great depth and weight to his comments and
advice.
Dr. Bolt was generous with his knowledge and patient with engineers who
didn't have his level of understanding. He seemed to be on a mission to
bridge the gaps between the professions. May those bridges stand
strong.
Find attached a photograph from the Olivenhain Dam Dedication
Ceremonies, Sept 2003, San Diego, CA. As with so many large projects,
he was on the Board of Senior Consultants guiding that project through
the design process.
He must be shaking things up, Up There. Godspeed, Bruce Bolt.
