Tributes to Tom McEvilly

Joe Litehiser

I remember Tom principally from 1969 to 1974. His was the first Berkeley voice I ever heard. It was his (for me, happy) duty to call a skinny Geology major at Indiana University to tell him he had been accepted to the UC Berkeley Department of Geology and Geophysics. Other memories are of his amazing attempt to keep up with Jack Zanetti around the PAR course at old Harmon Gym (for a Professor he was in alarmingly good shape and could easily distance me - if not Jack), and his absolutely puzzling presumption that I had ever heard of an "op-amp" before taking his graduate course in instrumentation (notes from that class have lived on my bookshelf ever since and been often used).
