Tom was the gift of hospitality. As a teacher and former colleague of Dottie's, I might end up at their home one evening cutting ribbons for a banner or typing a draft of an earthquake preparedness plan for the school. Tom would come in from work and would bring joy and humor with him. He was comfortable with himself, so was able, by his presence to give comfort to others who were weary. Exhaustion and frustration would fade into contentment and relaxation during those evenings with the McEvillys. Our lives were not deeply intertwined, but Tom's generosity and hospitality have touched and changed me. My life was blessed by Tom.
