Tributes to Tom McEvilly

Francis Wu

I have known Tom for many years. But working together on a seismic project in New Zealand from 1993 to 1999 allowed me to know him well. Tom was insatiable in his curiosity and generous with his colleagues and friends. Both factors made the fieldwork rewarding scientifically and very smooth operationally. Dottie accompanied Tom on those trips and both of them extended their help whenever needed and possible. The breadth of his knowledge, the soundness of his judgment and his sense of humor always made a conversation with him an enjoyable occasion. Tom's ready smile even when he realized that his colleagues were trying out an innocent swindle was absolutely infectious. I am almost certain that he has just submitted a proposal to the highest authority for the establishment of a new seismic station, with the broadest band possible, near where he is.
