August News:
After completing a one-year MS, including a full research project with Roland Burgmann on measuring and modeling deformation along the Hayward-Calaveras stepover and a study of the 2007 Alum Rock earthquake, Eileen Evans is heading east to Harvard to pursue a Phd in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
Oleg Khainovski will be joining the BSL as a Programmer Analyst in late August!
Taka'aki Taira started work as an Assistant Research Seismologist on August 1!
June News:
Kate Connor married Justin Lewis on June 21st!
Paul Cupillard joined the BSL at the beginning of June as a post-doc working with Barbara Romanowicz.
On June 3, a party was held to commemorate two employees' years of service to the BSL. Bill Karavas was honored for 15 years of service, while John Friday was honored for 35 years of University service.
Pete Lombard received a Berkeley Campus Spot Award in recognition of his efforts in completing critical unfinished tasks for the Early Earthquake Warning project which insured that important deadlines were met despite the unexpected departure of a colleague.
Angela Chung is leaving the BSL in June to pursue a PhD in geophysics at Stanford University.
Fabio Cammarano is leaving the BSL in June for a 2 year post-doc position in Zurich. He will be working at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics group of ETH.
Aimin Cao is leaving the BSL at the end of June for a post-doc position at Rice University.
Daula Vishwanath Chandrasekhar is completing his fellowship at the end of June and returning to his position as a research scientist at National Geophysical Research Institute in Hyderabad, India.
April News:
Alexei Kireev left the BSL in early April for a job in industry.

Baby boy Gaston Houlie was born to Nicolas Houlie and his wife Anne-Sophie on March 11th!
February News:
Baby girl Michaela Yuan was born to Huaiyu Yuan and his wife Yumei on February 15th!
Baby boy Connor Matteo Templeton was born to former graduate student Dennise Templeton (now at Livermore) and her husband Jeremy Templeton on February 19th!
January News:
Mei Xue will be leaving the BSL in mid-January for an associate professor position in the Global Seismology and Geodynamics Program at Tongji University in Shanghai.
Dr. Robert Uhrhammer retired from the Berkeley Seismological Laboratory this January and will soon come back to work part time as a retiree appointee.
Laurent Stehly is joining the BSL as a post-doc working with Barbara Romanowicz.
2006-2007 News:
Students and Post-docs:
Two graduate students associated with BSL completed their PhD's: Dennise Templeton and Akiko To. Akiko is now a post-doc at JAMSTEC and Dennise accepted a position at Lawrence Livermore National Lab. Junkee Rhie, who graduated in 2005 and stayed on as a post-doc for a year, joined the faculty of the University of Seoul, Korea, in July 2007.
Post-doc Gareth Funning joined the faculty at the University of California, Riverside. Federica Marone completed her posdoc appointment at the end of November 06 and joined the research staff at the Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland). Chris Fuller worked as a postdoc with Roland Burgmann between July and December 06.
Huaiyu Yuan joined the global seismlogy group as a post-doc in early August 2007. Daula Vishwanath Chandrasekhar arrived in late June on a one year BOYSCAST postdoctoral fellowship. Isabelle Ryder was hired in January 2007 as a postdoc working in Roland Burgmann's group.
In the summer of 2007, several new graduate students joined us. Amanda Thomas, and Kelly Grijalva are working with Roland Burgmann, while Holly Brown Moore and Robert Porritt are working with Richard Allen and Shan Dou is working with Barbara Romanowicz.
Student employee Tomasz Matlak graduated and left the BSL engineering lab to pursue his PhD in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His brother Jozef is a freshman this year and has replaced his brother in the lab. Student employee Eric Winchell began working with the global seismology group in November 2006.
Staff
Kate Conner gave birth to baby boy Elliott Koenig Lewis on May 24, 2007. Eileen Evans worked as a student employee in the business office while Kate was on maternity leave.
Rich Clymer retired at the end of June and has come back to work part time as a retiree appointee to work on the HRSN maintenance and upgrade.
Angela Chung received her BS from EPS and is now working for the Lab as a Staff Research Associate.
Cynthia Bresloff left BSL in June 2007 to pursue a career in GIS support at the Nature Conservancy and was replaced in August 2007 by Jennifer Taggart, who received her BS in geophysics from California Institute of Technology.
