Dr. Joshi Karra (Catherine) is visiting the BSL from the National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad, India. During her stay, she will be collaborating with Roland Bürgmann on crustal deformation studies, analyzing post-seismic deformation following the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake and interpreting intra-continental GPS data to shed light on the earthquake occurrence process. She will be here from September through December.

Lei Ling is a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Electronic and Information Engineering (EIE) at Beihang University in China. She will be working with Roland Burgmann, analyzing and interpreting data from the new TerraSAR-X mission. She will be here for two years, until September 2010.

August 2009 News:
- The Berkeley Seismology Lab welcomed several new people this fall. New post-doc Colin Amos and new graduate student Hong-Han Huang with both be working with Roland Bürgmann. Graduate student Scott French will be working with Barbara Romanowicz and Richard Allen, while graduate student Patrick Statz-Boyer will be working with Doug Dreger.
Baby boy Kaito Taira was born to Taka'aki Taira and his wife Akiko on August 25th!
Isabelle Ryder left the BSL in August for a research/teaching post as Lecturer in Geophysics/Seismology at the University of Liverpool.
June 2009 News:
Ahyi Kim left the BSL at the end of June for a position as a Research Scientist with the Geophysics Department at Schlumberger Cambridge Research.
Laurent Stehly left the BSL at the end of June for a permanent position as a Researcher at Geosciences Azur, a lab associated with the University of Nice.
Ana Luz Acevedo-Cabrera just completed her BA in Geophysics in the EPS Department, and she will start EPS's one-year masters program this fall. She is working with Doug Dreger on determining a finite source model for small earthquakes on the Parkfield segment of the San Andreas fault. She plans to continue working on this research project untill the end of her masters program.
Student Alex Hartnett is working with Roland Bürgmann's group this summer, archiving InSAR data to help
provide an understanding of crustal deformation in the Bay Area. He is also testing and organizing equipment, and he will be helping out with a GPS survey.
May 2009 News:
Students Matt DeMartini, Samuel Peach, and Christopher Rawles will be working with Kevin Mayeda this summer to produce web-based outreach materials for the BSL. The materials, which will be geared toward teachers and the general public, will include presentations and videos centered on the potential Hayward Fault earthquake.
April 2009 News:
Morgan Wilson will be leaving the BSL at the end of April and moving to Austin, Texas.
February 2009 News:
Alicia Adams, a student emloyee pursuing a degree in Molecular Biology, left the BSL and
was replaced by Amanda Truyol, who is studying Integrated Biology.
January 2009 News:
Sean Ford left the BSL in January for a Post-doc at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He will be working in the Ground-based Nuclear Explosion Monitoring group.
