Earthquake Information
The BSL collaborates with the USGS Menlo Park to automatically determine earthquake parameters within minutes after an event. Together, the BSL and the USGS are responsible for reporting on northern California earthquakes as part of the statewide monitoring effort know as the California Integrated Seismic Network.
Earthquake Hot Line: The Berkeley Seismological Laboratory maintains an "Earthquake Hotline" which is open to the public. The taped message is updated after earthquakes of note. Both local and distant earthquakes are reported. The Hotline phone number is 510-642-2160
As part of our monitoring and archiving operations, the BSL provides access to a broad range of earthquake information:
- Monthly and annual maps of seismicity
- Earthquake special reports
- Looking for Fault Line information near your home?
- Hayward Fault
- Northern California Earthquake Data Center
