The [http://www.deep-earth.org/postAGU2011/postagu2011_proposal.shtml CIDER-II Synthesis Center proposal] to the [http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2010/nsf10577/nsf10577.htm NSF/FESD ]program has been funded for 5 years. We are continuing the summer programs, which are now held every year, alternating "deep" and "shallow" earth themes. We have been launching new activities, among which support for multi-disciplinary working groups on targeted topics, more sustained support for student research groups formed during the summer programs, a CIDER wiki and archival of materials assembled during the summer programs, as well as an annual "post-AGU" workshop. This one day workshop will serve as a kick-off for the CIDER [http://www.deep-earth.org/summer13.shtml 2013 Summer Program], aand more generally, brainstorming about future CIDER programs and activities.

The workshop will feature 4 keynote lectures, in CIDER style (ample time for questions and discussion) on topics related to the themes of the recent 2012 Summer program and the upcoming 2013 Summer program:

It will also feature presentations by former CIDER research groups, formed during the 2010 and 2011 summer programs, as well as reports from research groups formed during the 2012 Summer Programs.
