EPS 150, Course Schedule, Fall 2009

MARS AND TIBET READING LISTS NOW UPDATED FOR FALL 2009

The two case studies will span six weeks each. We will begin each case study with an introductory lecture providing background on the methodologies used, data sets available and other general aspects. The next four weeks will involve in-depth analysis of four topics, with two or more papers each, sometimes with competing hypotheses, and a brief review of the background material to guide the reading for the following topic. Lead discussants for each topic will use ~30 minutes to provide a clear summary of the papers, a list of the main points, background material that helps better understand the issues, and questions for subsequent discussion including the entire class. They will prepare a 2-page handout and provide file copies of their presentations to aid in this effort. The final session in each case study will be devoted to synthesis and critical analysis. Each student will prepare a brief (< 220 words!) summary on the weekly topics (except for the presenters of that week), and a concise (< 660 words!) proposal on each case study.
