These are
examples of spectral acceleration shakemaps obtained using the empirical
attenuation relationship of Somerville et al. (1997). Maps for 0.3, 1.0 and 3.0 seconds period
are compared. The contours show
spectral acceleration in g and the red numbers show observed spectral
acceleration in %g. There is
reasonable agreement between the predictions and the data. The 1 and 3 second maps clearly show the
effects of directivity. The input
required to use this attenuation relationship is slip dimension, fault
strike, Mw, and site type. This information is available after the initial
source processing stage described on slide 9.
