MICHAEL MANGA

Neat stuff in the Field

Berkeley field camp, summer 2014
The UC Berkeley geology field camp was held in Long Valley Caldera during summer 2014. Michael helped with two projects: mapping Panum Crater and peforming a gravity survey across and within the caldera. The first project was motivated by trying to better understand how the dome formed, and how long ash erupted into the atmosphere. With the second project we are trying to determine the origin of the inflation in the caldera. Is it caused by magma intrusion? or is it hydrothermal in origin? Great students and science!
