Field Trips

There will be two field trips each lasting two to three hours which will explore the impact of the Hayward Fault in Berkeley.

There will be several field trip time slots avaliable over a three day period. The dates of the field trips will be made available on the syllabus. All work is due at 5pm on the due date and can deposited in the drop-boxes in 340 McCone Hall.

The Virtual Hayward Fault Tour

You can explore the Hayward Fault using GoogleEarth. To take the tour you will need to:

  1. Download and install GoogleEarth (free).
  2. Download and save the kmz file to your computer (you cannot open it remotely).
  3. Unzip the file.
  4. Double click on the kmz file and it will open in GoogleEarth.
  5. In the "Places" window single click of the "Hayward Fault Virtual Helicopter Tour" and then click the play buttom in the lower right of the "Places" box.

This virtual tour was provided by the US Geological Survey. They have more information about the Hayward Fault and this vertual tour on their website.
