New Methods and Applications of Earthquake Early Warning

A sepecial section of Geophys. Res. Lett., 36 2009.

Description: The science and engineering of rapid earthquake detection and notification - "earthquake early warning" - has been developed substantially around the world in the last few years. Operational warning systems now provide seconds to tens of seconds warning prior to damaging ground shaking in Japan, Taiwan, Turkey, Romania and Mexico. New systems are also being designed and tested on existing real-time seismic networks in Asia, Europe and the Americas. This special special section highlights these developments and the lessons being learned about implementation around the world.
