Kathryn Materna

USGS Mendenhall Fellow

Check out my new website! I'll be moving my site officially soon.

About me:

I am a geophysicist and Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellow at the US Geological Survey in Moffett Field, CA. Before joining USGS, I was a graduate student in the UC Berkeley Active Tectonics lab and the Berkeley Seismology Lab.

My interests are in tectonic deformation related to the earthquake cycle and the generation of seismicity. I use space-geodetic techniques (GPS, InSAR) and seismic datasets (characteristically repeating earthquakes) to understand these processes, including coseismic and interseismic deformation, seasonal elastic loading, and induced seismicity. My research mostly focuses on regions in Northern California, such as the San Francisco Bay Area and the Mendocino Triple Junction, but also includes other active areas around the world.
