BBEB - Bay Bridge Pier 23, Oakland, CA, USA

We operate broadband and borehole stations under the network code BK. The Berkeley Digital Seismic Network (BDSN) is a regional network of very broadband and strong motion seismic stations designed to monitor regional seismic activity as well as provide high quality data. The Berkeley borehole stations have borehole geophones or other seismic sensors and may have other geophysical instrumentation.

Location

BBEB is one of the bridge sites of the Northern Hayward Fault Network. The borehole is located on the north side of the east approach of the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge, near the Mole Building. This site is operated under the auspices of Caltrans.

Network

Berkeley Digital Seismic Network (BK)
Northern Hayward Fault Network (BK)

Geology

Alluvium, playa, and terrace deposits

Borehole Conditions

The borehole is drilled to a depth of 183 meters and the sensor package is located at the bottom of the hole. Telemetry to the BSL is over a radio connection to McCone Hall, which is prone to fades.
